(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (6-1, 1-0 in ACCAC) opened ACCAC conference play on Friday against GateWay Community College (1-6, 0-1) at the NOS Santos Complex in Mesa.
The No. 9 ranked Aztecs scored two goals in each half as they beat the Geckos 4-1.
Sophomores Litycia Espinoza (Sahuarita HS) and Seti Valencia (Sunnyside HS) each scored a goal and had an assist in the game.
Espinoza assisted in freshman Mari Acosta’s (Sahuarita HS) goal to put the Aztecs on the scoreboard in the 12th minute. Espinoza scored her goal in the 77th minute to give Pima a 3-1 cushion.
Valencia assisted in Espinoza’s goal and netted one of her own two minutes later in the 79thminute. Sophomore Nayeli Vidal (Sahuaro HS) had the assist.
The Aztecs took a 2-0 lead in the first half when sophomore Kaitlyn Bassett (Sabino HS) scored in the 20th minute with an assist from sophomore Angelina Amparano (Salpointe Catholic HS).
The Geckos scored in the 63rd off a goal from Arieanna Arreola Palomares.
The Aztecs finished with 17 shots on goal and the Geckos had two. Amparano finished the game with one save.
The Aztecs are off until Saturday, Sept. 25 when they play at Phoenix College. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
