(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (6-0) was forced to overcome an early deficit on Tuesday against Yavapai College (4-3) at the West Campus Aztec Soccer Field.
The No. 2 ranked Aztecs (Division II) scored three unanswered goals to beat No. 16 Yavapai College (Division I) 3-1.
Yavapai’s Jakob Larson scored for the Roughriders in in the 2nd minute to give Yavapai the early advantage. The Aztecs responded when sophomore Brian Vu (Rincon HS) scored on a free kick to tie it up. The score remained 1-1 at halftime.
The Aztecs blanked the Roughriders in the second half. Pima took the lead at 2-1 when Vu found sophomore Ulysses Torres (Sunnyside HS) on a cross-pass for the goal in the 46thminute.
The Aztecs tacked on an insurance goal in the 59th minute when sophomore Taein Ka scored in the box after a cross-pass assist from sophomore Francisco Manzo (Salpointe Catholic HS).
Sophomore Juan Suarez (Desert View HS) finished with nine saves. The Aztecs were outshot for the game as they had eight shots on goal while Yavapai finished with 10.
The Aztecs are back on the road on Friday when they play GateWay Community College at the NOS Santos Complex in Mesa. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
