(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s track & field team closed out the 2021 season on Thursday in the final day of the NJCAA Division I National Championships.
The Aztecs took 14th place in the team standings and finished with a team score of 16 points.
Freshman Reise Way (Buena HS) took third place in the Javelin after setting a new season-best. He saved the best throw for last as he finished with a mark of 55.48 meters (182-feet) earning Pima six team points and NJCAA Division I All-American honors.
Sophomore Donovan Henderson earned All-American status after he took fifth place in the Triple Jump with a mark of 14.73 meters (48-4) earning four team points.
Sophomore Mikhail Browne placed eighth in the Triple Jump with a jump of 14.26 meters (46-9.50) as he earned All-American honors and gave Pima one team point.
Way, Henderson and Browne joined freshmen Bryce Williams and Reece Gardner (Marana HS) as Pima’s NJCAA All-Americans. Williams took fifth place in the Pole Vault and Gardner finished eighth in the Decathlon.

With this year and Covid, the obstacles we overcame were immense,” Pima men’s and women’s track & field coach Chad Harrison said. “The unity that our team had contributed to our success. Winning the region championships on both the men’s and the women’s set us up for future success. Our new coaching staff has shown so much growth and belief in the team.
“We look forward to growing this program into one of the most dominant programs in the country.”
Pima track & field head coaches Chad Harrison (Men) and Al Shirley (Women) were named ACCAC/Region I Coaches of the Year.
The Aztecs won their first NJCAA Region I, Division I Championship since 1983 (38 years).
