(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (9-1) took control late in the first half and early in the second half on Thursday as it beat Chandler-Gilbert Community College (4-6-1) in the NJCAA Region I, Division II Semifinals.
The No. 1 seeded Aztecs defeated the No. 4 Coyotes 5-1 as the Aztecs advanced to their 13th region final in 16 years.
Sophomore Manuel Quiroz (Sunnyside HS) scored two penalty kick goals for the Aztecs in the 32nd and 54th minutes.
Sophomore Seungeon Kim scored a goal 24 seconds into the second half on an assist from fellow sophomore Francisco Manzo (Salpointe Catholic HS) to make it 3-0. Kim also had an assist to sophomore Sam Lossou’s (Rincon HS) goal in the 62nd minute; which put Pima up 5-0.
Sophomore Ulysses Torres (Sunnyside HS) scored with under a minute left in the first half to make it 2-0 with an assist from sophomore Zak Mohammed (Rincon HS).
The Coyotes got on the board with a goal in the 75th minute.
Sophomore Juan Suarez (Desert View HS) played 63 minutes at the net and finished with one save. Freshman Micah Gun played the final 27 minutes and also had a save.
The Aztecs will host their seventh straight Region Finals game as they take on No. 2 seeded Phoenix College on Saturday at the West Campus Aztec Soccer Field part of the Chapman Auto Sports Complex. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. The Aztecs suffered their only loss of the season to the Bears on April 24 in a 1-0 defeat.
