(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College softball team (8-16, 8-16 in ACCAC) dropped an ACCAC doubleheader on Thursday against No. 11 Yavapai College (27-5, 22-2).
The Aztecs were blanked in the first game and went back and forth with the Roughriders in the second game.
Game 1: (11) Yavapai College Roughriders 15, Pima CC Aztecs 0 (5 innings)
The Aztecs managed four hits for the game as Yavapai’s offense took control.
Freshman Lesly Cazares (Desert View HS) finished 1 for 1 with a walk. Freshmen Dominique Triste and Jazmin Ayala (Sunnyside HS) also each went 1 for 1. Freshman Kelli Samorano (Tucson Magnet HS) was 1 for 2.
Freshman Anisah Triste took the loss (4-9) as she pitched two innings giving up eight runs (six earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Game 2: (11) Yavapai College Roughriders 12, Pima CC Aztecs 7
The Roughriders broke open a tie game in the 7th inning with five runs.
Down 2-0, the Aztecs took the lead in the 2nd inning with four runs. They loaded the bases with no outs as freshman Isabella Escobar hit an RBI single to put the Aztecs on the board after she drove in freshman Lorisa Martinez. Freshman Mariah Bartlett followed with an RBI single of her own to bring in freshman Andrica Gomez to tie it at 2-2. Escobar put the Aztecs ahead 3-2 when she scored on a wild pitch. Freshman Anisah Triste capped off the inning with an RBI single to plate Bartlett.
The Aztecs trailed 6-4 in the 5th inning but Escobar tied it up with her seventh homer of the season after a 2-run blast to centerfield to score Martinez, who had a leadoff walk.
The Aztecs tied the game at 7-7 in 6th inning when Triste reached base on an error and pinch runner Kayla Gonzales (Salpointe Catholic HS) scored on the play.
Escobar finished the game 2 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Triste went 1 for 4 with two RBIs while Bartlett was 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. Martinez finished 1 for 3 with a run and Gomez went 1 for 4 with a run.
Freshman Gabrielle Favela pitched in relief and took the loss (0-1) as she went two and one-third innings giving up six runs (one earned) on six hits with one walk.

The Aztecs are right back at the West Campus Aztec Softball Field on Saturday when they host an ACCAC doubleheader against Eastern Arizona College. First pitch is at noon.
