(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College softball team (6-2, 6-2 in ACCAC) scored 32 runs on Tuesday as it earned its fourth straight run-rule victory after sweeping GateWay Community College (1-11, 1-11).
Sophomore Giselle Muñoz (Salpointe Catholic HS) finished the day 4 for 7 with six RBIs and four runs scored while freshman Lesly Cazares (Desert View HS) went 4 for 6 with five RBIs and two runs scored.
Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 14, GateWay CC Geckos 6 (5 innings)
The Aztecs took the lead for good in the 3rd inning and put the game away in the 5th inning.
The Aztecs didn’t waste any time in the 5th inning as they loaded the bases with no outs. Freshman Kelli Samorano (Tucson Magnet HS) hit an RBI single to score freshman Dominique Triste. Freshman Anisah Triste followed with a 2-run RBI double scoring freshman Briana Rodriguez (Nogales HS) and Muñoz to make it 12-5. Cazares had Pima’s third straight RBI hit as she drove in Samorano and Anisah Triste with a single to cap off the five-run inning.
With the score tied at 3-3, the Aztecs put up a six-spot in the 3rd inning. Freshman Andrica Gomez hit an RBI single to score Cazares and put the Aztecs ahead 4-3. Rodriguez followed with a 2-run RBI single plating Escobar and freshman Mariah Bartlett. Muñoz followed that up with a 2-run RBI double bringing in Gomez and Rodriguez. Muñoz scored on a Gecko error to make it 9-3.
Escobar and freshman Gabrielle Favela had back-to-back RBI doubles in the 1st inning.
Cazares finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a run while Anisah Triste and Muñoz each went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Rodriguez was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Escobar finished 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs and Samorano went 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs.
Dominique Triste picked up the win in relief (1-0) pitching one and one-third innings with one strikeout and four walks.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 18, GateWay CC Geckos 7 (5 innings)
The Aztecs’ offense went on a tear with six runs in the 1st inning and seven runs in the 2nd to take control.
Bartlett and Favela each had 2-run RBI hits while Cazares and freshman Kayla Gonzales (Salpointe Catholic HS) each hit RBI singles.
In the 2nd inning, Samorano had a 2-run RBI double to score freshman Desiree Martinez (Canyon del Oro HS) and Escobar. Muñoz capped off the inning with a grand slam to make it 13-0.
The Aztecs padded their lead in the 4th inning when freshman Lorisa Martinez hit a 2-run home run to score Dominique Triste.
Rodriguez’s 2-run RBI single in the 5th inning helped the Aztecs regain the mercy-rule advantage
Muñoz finished the game 2 for 3 with four RBIs and two runs. Bartlett was a flawless 4 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs scored while Cazares went 2 for 2 with two RBIs and a run. Favela was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs and Rodriguez went 1 for 3 with two RBIs.
Lorisa Martinez finished 1 for 1 with two RBIs and a run.
Anisah Triste picked up the win (3-1) as she pitched two innings with two strikeouts.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Softball Field part of the Chapman Auto Sports Complex on Saturday when they host an ACCAC doubleheader against South Mountain Community College. First pitch is at noon.
