(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College baseball team (15-6) stepped away from ACCAC conference play and hosted a non-conference game on Wednesday against Community Christian College.
The Aztecs defeated the Saints 9-1 in a single game at the West Campus Aztec Baseball Field part of the Chapman Auto Sports Complex.
The Aztecs got on the board with three runs in the 1st inning. Freshman Saul Escarrega (Sahuarita HS) had an RBI double to drive in sophomore Andre Greene (Rio Rico HS). Sophomore Armando Aguilar scored on a wild pitch and freshman Alec Acevedo (Nogales HS) hit an RBI single to score pinch runner Alex Kelch (Tucson Magnet HS).
Green had an RBI single in the 2nd inning and a sacrifice fly RBI in the 6th. Freshman Q Phillips scored both runs.
The Aztecs scored three more insurance runs in the 8th inning. Freshman Fernando Loera hit a 2-run RBI double to plate freshman Logan Sanders (Catalina Foothills HS) and Phillips to make it 8-1. Loera scored later in the inning.
Loera finished the game 1 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Green went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a run. Acevedo was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a walk and Phillips finished 1 for 2 with three runs and two walks.
Sophomore John Dormanen (Ironwood Ridge HS) picked up the win (1-0) as he started the game and threw four innings giving up one run (none earned) on three hits with 11 strikeouts and two walks on 67 pitches. Freshmen Atley Jacome and Andrew Prieve each threw two innings and Trey Trimble closed it out in the 9th.
The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Baseball Field on Thursday for another single game against Community Christian College. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
