(Tucson, AZ) The Tucson Sugar Skulls have re-signed Tucson native, defensive lineman/linebacker Robert Metz for the 2021 Indoor Football League season.
DL/LB Robert Metz, (6’4”, 240, Dixie State University) will be entering his fourth season in the IFL and his second with the Sugar Skulls, after he was one of the franchise’s first five players to ever be signed before their inaugural season in 2019.
In 2019 Metz played in six games for the Sugar Skulls, while piling up 21 overall tackles (13 solo). Prior to joining the Sugar Skulls, he spent two seasons with the Green Bay Blizzard of the IFL, where he earned second-team All-IFL honors as a linebacker in 2018. During that year, Metz was also named the MVP of the Green Bay Blizzard organization and awarded the “Community Impact Award” for his service to the Green Bay community.
Metz played college football at Dixie State University, where he became a two-time all-Great West Athletic Conference (GNAC) honorable mention selection. In his final collegiate game against Central Washington, Metz set Dixie State’s single-game school record with 19 tackles. By the end of Metz’ four-year career at Dixie State, he ranked second all-time for the program with 217 total tackles, while also posting the eighth-best single season mark for tackles with 91 in 2014.
The Tucson native graduated from Canyon Del Oro High School, where he currently contributes to the school’s football team as a Volunteer Assistant Coach for the inside linebackers.
