Pima Community College Women’s Volleyball Looking to Pick Up Where They Left Off in The 2019 Season

(Tucson, AZ)  With the new season being just around the corner for the Pima Community College Women’s Volleyball team, head coach Dan Bithell and his coaching staff have been busy adding depth to their roster to pick up where they left off in the 2019 season.

“It was a banner year for us,” Bithell said.

Making it to the Regional Championship match after all the adversity showed the growth and the determination the girls had, Bithell said.

Although the Aztecs fell short to Scottsdale Community College in that match, it showed Bithell and the coaching staff that they competed against some of the best of the best in the country and with the new season rolling around and the new recruits all signed and ready to come in they are excited to see what this new season can bring.

“We want to win and play for championships but at the same time we want to get better every single day in every single practice,” Bithell said.

By getting better every single day, the coaching staff asks their girls to buy into something that is bigger than them and something that is bigger than the program as a whole, Bithell said.

When going out and recruiting the talent they have for this upcoming season Bithell and his coaching staff were sure to bring in girls that already fit that motto.

With two transfers coming back to Arizona after competing at schools outside of the state for their first year, the court is going to see a tremendous amount of leadership and maturity from them and also the seven Bithell and his coaching staff have returning.

Holly Sets is one of the transfers that is making her way back Arizona after competing her first year a Lee College and will be a big part of the success the Aztecs can have on the court in their upcoming season.

The other transfer that is going to be a huge player for the Aztecs is Eve Parsons. An outside hitter that competed at Newman College for her first year.

Among these transfers are a list of incoming freshman that will also be vital to the success that the Aztecs can have on the court.

Adding depth to the outside with setters like freshman Karla Soto from Nogales and  Isabella Jacome from Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Each of these girls are high level athletes that have been coached and competed in high quality club volleyball programs, Bithell said.

Among these two freshman comes a solid attacker and sever in Deanna Almaguer from Las Cruses, New Mexico.

“She has good size and good athletic ability,” Bithell said.

Ironwood Ridge High School 5A Region Player of the Year, Andrea Vigil-German will be a consistent outside hitter for the Aztecs, Bithell said.

“I definitely think Andrea will be able to come in and fill some big shoes right away with our recent outside hitter just graduating,” Bithell said.

When recruiting athletes, it is important to Bithell and his coaching staff that they are going out and finding those players that haven’t really had the chance to get experience yet, Bithell said.

The Aztecs have brought on players for this upcoming season that by coming to Pima has opened up their opportunities to get better and achieve their goal of making it to a four year university or college.

Kaylee Moseley out of Marana High School will be able to play anywhere in the front for the Aztecs and have the opportunity to blossom into a high level player for the Aztec’s in the next two season, Bithell said.

Haley Duncan out of Walden Grove High School has all the tools she needs to become a key competitive player for the Aztecs. She has good size and she is quick and she wants to get better, Bithell said.

First, the Aztecs new and returning players are going to have to figure out how to work and function as a team. Second, is getting all on the same path in the same direction. After that, the Pima Community College Women’s Volleyball Team will be unstoppable in to 2020 season.
