(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (18-10, 12-8 in ACCAC) earned its seventh straight victory on Wednesday at Chandler-Gilbert Community College (9-19, 3-17).
The Aztecs defeated the Coyotes 92-76 to stay in the hunt for the No. 2 seed in the Region playoffs with two regular season games remaining. There is still a three-way tie for the No. 2 seed between the Aztecs, Phoenix College and Glendale Community College.
Down 61-60 with 10 minutes left in the game, the Aztecs went on an 18-1 run to reclaim a double digit lead at 78-62 with five minutes remaining. The Aztecs led 53-43 at halftime.
Freshman Jake Lieppert (Saguaro HS) scored a game-high 31 points after going 11 for 14 from the field and 6 for 8 from three-point range. This was his sixth game with scoring over 30 points.
Sophomore Cole Gerken (Ironwood Ridge HS) finished with 22 points as he went 3 for 6 from behind the arc. He also added six rebounds and five assists.
Sophomore Rashad Smith (Hamilton HS) had a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomores Jordan Robinson (Tucson HS) and Nick Rosquist (The Gregory School) each had nine points.
The Aztecs will play at Phoenix College on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
