(Mesa, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (10-5, 4-3 in ACCAC) returned to ACCAC conference play on Saturday but dropped a tough one on the road at Mesa Community College (10-5, 6-1).
The Aztecs fell 63-62 to the Thunderbirds snapping their six-game winning streak. The Thunderbirds inbounded the ball near their bench and scored a three-pointer as time ran out.
The Aztecs led 36-29 at halftime but were outscored 34-26 for the second half.
Sophomore Rashad Smith scored a game-high 24 points as he went 9 for 15 from the floor. He fell short of a double-double with nine rebounds. Fellow sophomore Jordan Robinson (Tucson HS) posted 13 points and eight rebounds while sophomore Nick Rosquist (The Gregory School) had eight points.
The Aztecs were outrebounded 42-37 for the game.
The Aztecs will be back on the road on Wednesday when they play at South Mountain Community College. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
