HOW IT HAPPENED

Six minutes into the 1st period, Clarkson freshman defenseman used his speed to go around the net and beat ASU goaltender Evan DeBrouwer to the near post, tucking it behind him for the 1-0 lead.

Three minutes later, Golden Knights’ point leader Haralds Egle put a tip on a shot that trickled past DeBrouwer for the 2-0 lead.

After a tough start to the game, the final 10 minutes of the 1st period were controlled by the Sun Devils. Sophomore PJ Marrocco slid in front as Jarrod Gourley fired a shot from the top of the zone, and got a tip of his own to cut Clarkson’s lead in half with 1:39 remaining.

With 15 seconds left, forward James Sanchez was in front and tipped in a floating pass from Johnny Walker to tie the game. However, the officials went to review and determined his stick was above the bar for the tip in.

Less than six minutes into the 2nd, senior forward Brett Gruber swung around the back of the net and fired a quick shot on net that beat Frank Marotte 5-hole to tie the game at two.

Looking back, one of the biggest plays of the night came with 6:30 left in the 2nd. DeBrouwer went behind the net to play the puck and it kicked out to a Clarkson forward who fed his teammate in the slot with an open net. Junior forward Filips Buncis slid in front and took a knee for what would turn out to save the game for the Sun Devils.

Both teams saw grade ‘A’ scoring chances in the 3rd, but neither could find paydirt.

A minute and 25 seconds into overtime, senior d-man Brinson Pasichnuk fired a shot from above the left circle and a soft rebound stuck in front for fellow senior Tyler Busch to punch home the game-winner behind Marotte.

GAME NOTES

Senior defenseman Brinson Pasichnuk recorded another multi-point night – his eighth multi-point performance of the season – with two assists tonight.

Junior forward Willie Knierim’s assist on the game-winner totals three goals and three assists in his last five games.

Senior forward Tyler Busch’s game-winning goal made for a two- point night and eight points in his last five games. It’s also his third multi-point night in the last four games.

The win became the Sun Devils’ fourth win over a top-10 team this season.
