TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona women’s basketball team was picked to finish in sixth place in the preseason Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll, the conference announced on Monday morning prior to Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Media Day. Arizona hasn’t been picked to finish this high in the conference since the 2005-06 preseason poll.
The Wildcats return eight players from the 2018-19 team that won 24 games, including the WNIT Championship, and bring in seven newcomers. The eight returners accounted for 92% of the team’s scoring from last season, including All-American Aari McDonaldwho led the Pac-12 with 24.1 points per game, which was also the third-highest scoring average in the nation.
Arizona will officially open up the 2019-20 season on Nov. 5 as they take on North Dakota in the home opener after facing Eastern New Mexico in an exhibition game on Oct. 27.
