(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (0-1) rallied on two occasions but dropped its opening game of the 2019 season on Saturday against No. 13 ranked Salt Lake Community College (2-0).
The Bruins scored four unanswered goals in the final 27 minutes of play as the Aztecs fell 6-2 to the Bruins at the Kino North Grandstand.
Down 1-0, the Aztecs gained some momentum heading into the break when freshman Savannah Samorano (Tucson HS) scored inside the box with less than a minute left in the half. Sophomore Alexis Tapia (Sahuaro HS) had the assist.
The Bruins retook the lead in the 47th minute but the Aztecs tied the game once again after Samorano scored her second goal of the day off a header inside the box.
The Aztecs were outshot 14-3 as sophomore Jorie Paul (Cienega HS) finished the game with eight saves. Pima also didn’t have a corner kick in the game.
The Aztecs look to bounce back as they begin ACCAC conference play on Thursday. They’ll host Paradise Valley Community College at Kino North Stadium at 4:30 p.m.
