(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College baseball program had a breakout season and it showed as the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference release its All-Conference and All-Region teams.
Sophomore Phillip Sikes and freshman Cole Cummings were named first team All-ACCAC/All-Region while sophomores Austin Bryan (Sahuarita HS), Javier Nava and Enrique Porchas (Kofa HS) were selected to the second team.
This is the most the Aztecs baseball program have had represented on the All-ACCAC and All-Region teams in at least 20 years.
Sikes was named to the first team as an outfielder. He batted .370 and led the Aztecs with 26 extra base hits, six triples, seven home runs and 18 steals. He tied in leading the team with 13 doubles and 40 RBIs in 54 games. He produced a fielding percentage of .985. Sikes also worked out of the bullpen as he made 10 appearances on the mound going 2-1 with a 0.96 ERA in 9.1 innings pitched. He gave up one earned run with 21 strikeouts and four saves.
Cummings was selected to the first team as an infielder. He played in all 55 games and was the primary leadoff hitter for much of the season. He led the Aztecs with a .383 average, 196 at-bats, 75 hits and 55 runs scored. Cummings also had 13 doubles, five triples, two homers, 39 RBIs, 29 walks and 13 steals. He had a fielding percentage of .940.
Bryan was chosen for the second team as a pitcher. He was part of a strong pitching staff for the Aztecs this season. He made 17 appearances with 13 starts on the mound. He went 10-3 with a 3.64 ERA in 81.2 innings pitched and tied for first in the ACCAC conference with 94 strikeouts. Bryan also threw five complete-games.
Porchas was named to the second team for the second straight season as an infielder. He batted .338 with 54 hits, 39 runs, 16 extra base hits, eight doubles, four triples, four home runs, 23 RBIs, 29 walks and nine stolen bases in 53 games played. Porchas produced a fielding percentage of .981.
Nava was selected to the second team as a catcher. He played in 29 games and averaged a .329 batting average with 16 RBIs. He was brilliant behind the plate with a .974 fielding percentage with 139 putouts and nine assists.
The Aztecs finished the 2019 season with a 36-19 overall record; the most wins in a single season since 1993. They were 22-16 in ACCAC conference play; which matched their best record since 2014.
