(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College softball team (24-25, 20-22 in ACCAC) dropped an ACCAC doubleheader on Tuesday against No. 4 ranked Phoenix College (Division II) at the West Campus Aztec Softball Field.
Sophomore Alese Casper was a bright spot on offense as she finished the day 5 for 7 with four RBIs, two runs scored and two doubles.
Game 1: (4) Phoenix College Bears 10, Pima CC Aztecs 8
The Aztecs charged back and took the lead with six runs in the 6th inning but the Bears (42-6, 40-4) countered with four runs in the top of the 7th to take the lead for good.
Down 6-2 in the 6th inning, the Aztecs did their damage with two outs. Sophomore Jessica Lozania (Sahuarita HS) hit an RBI single to score freshman Bianca Castillo (Rio Rico HS). Sophomore Janice Garcia (Rio Rico HS) scored on an error and freshman Giselle Munoz (Salpointe Catholic HS) scored on a fielder’s choice. Casper capped it off with a bases-clearing RBI double scoring Lozania, freshman Samantha Angulo (Mountain View HS) and sophomore Ariana Gomez (Sahuaro HS) to give Pima an 8-6 lead.
Sophomore Maria Vanezza Caldera (Tucson HS) put the Aztecs on the board in the 1st inning with a two-run RBI double to score Casper and sophomore Devynn Marshall (Shadow Ridge HS).
Casper finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs, a run scored and a double. Caldera went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a walk while Lozania was 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored.
Castillo (9-10) took the loss as she pitched seven innings giving up 10 runs (five earned) on 13 hits with five strikeouts and one walk.

Game 2: (4) Phoenix College Bears 16, Pima CC Aztecs 5 (5 innings)
The Bears took control scoring seven runs in the 1st inning and eight runs in the 4th.The Aztecs put up a five-spot in the bottom of the 4th inning.
Casper, Marshall and Caldera had back-to-back-to-back RBI hits. Casper drove in Garcia with an RBI single. Marshall hit a two-run RBI double to score Gomez and Casper while Caldera knocked in Marshall with an RBI double. Munoz hit a double with one out and scored after Garcia reached on an error.
Casper went 3 for 3 with an RBI, a run scored and a double. Marshall was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run while Caldera finished 1 for 3 with an RBI. Munoz was 2 for 2 with a run.
Castillo (9-11) took the loss after she started the game and pitched one-third of an inning giving up seven runs (seven earned) on three hits with four walks.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Softball Field on Saturday when they host South Mountain Community College in an ACCAC doubleheader. First pitch is at noon.
