(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College softball team (14-11, 10-8 in ACCAC) earned a sweep on Thursday against GateWay Community College (4-19, 3-17).
Sophomore Alese Casper finished the day 5 for 7 with three RBIs and four runs scored. She earned two wins on the mound and gave up no earned runs.
Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 8, GateWay CC Geckos 0 (5 innings): The Aztecs scored five runs in the 2nd inning and Casper completed the shutout as the Aztecs earned a run rule win.
Up 2-0, the Aztecs poured it on in the 2nd inning. Freshman Amaya Turner-Vizcarra(Tucson HS) hit a two-run RBI double with one out. Sophomore Maria Vanezza Caldera (Tucson HS) had an RBI double and freshman Giselle Munoz (Salpointe Catholic HS) hit an RBI single to plate Caldera and make it 7-0.
Sophomore Devynn Marshall (Shadow Ridge HS) went 0 for 2 but had three RBIs in the game. She hit two groundout RBIs in the 1st and 2nd and a sacrifice-fly RBI in the 3rdinning.
Turner-Vizcarra went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Caldera was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Munoz finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and sophomore Ariana Gomez (Sahuaro HS) went 1 for 2 with two runs.
Casper was 2 for 2 with two runs scored while pitching a five-inning shutout. She gave up two hits with one strikeout and one walk on 55 pitches. She earned her fifth straight win on the mound as she improved to 5-2.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 20, GateWay CC Geckos 6 (5 innings): The Aztecs exploded for 13 runs in the 4th inning and finished the game with 24 hits in a run rule victory.
Up 7-6 in the bottom of the 4th inning, sophomore Alizea Durazo-Corday (Pueblo HS) went yard for her second home run of the game, a leadoff shot to make it 8-6. Gomez hit a pair of 2-run RBI singles in the inning while freshman Bianca Castillo (Rio Rico HS) and Munoz also contributed with 2-run RBI hits.
The Aztecs had three homers in the game as Durazo-Corday hit her first home run in the 2nd inning off a 2-run shot and Castillo belted a three-run homer also in the six-run 2ndinning.
Castillo went 2 for 3 with five RBIs and two runs. Durazo-Corday went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and three runs while Gomez finished 2 for 4 with four RBIs and two runs. Casper was 3 for 5 with three RBIs and two runs and Munoz went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Casper earned her sixth straight win (6-2) as she went five innings giving up six runs (none earned) on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks on 77 pitches.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Softball Field on Saturday when they host Yavapai College in an ACCAC Division I doubleheader. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
