(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College softball team (14-13, 10-10 in ACCAC) came back from a lopsided defeat but could not hang on against No. 8 ranked Yavapai College (25-3, 16-2) Saturday at the West Campus Aztec Softball Field.
Game 1: The Roughriders took control with four runs in the 4th inning and seven run in the 5th.
The Aztecs had five hits for the game. Freshman Devynn Marshall (Shadow Ridge HS) went 2 for 2 with a double. Sophomore Alese Casper was 1 for 3 while sophomore Ariana Gomez (Sahuaro HS) and freshman Giselle Munoz (Salpointe Catholic HS) each went 1 for 2.
Freshman Abril Nerey (Rio Rico HS) took the loss (4-3) as she pitched four and one-third innings giving up eight runs (eight earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

Game 2: The Aztecs had a runner on third with no outs in the 8th inning but a lineout and two strikeouts ended the threat and the game. The Aztecs left 10 runners on base for the game.
The Aztecs tied it at 2-2 in the 1st inning when sophomore Maria Vanezza Caldera (Tucson HS) hit a two-run RBI single to plate Casper and Gomez. Marshall gave Pima a 3-2 lead in the 2nd inning when she drove in freshman Bianca Castillo (Rio Rico HS) with an RBI single.
The Roughriders tied the game with a run in the 6th inning and took the lead with a run in the 8th.
Caldera was 1 for 4 with two RBIs while Marshall went 1 for 4 with an RBI. Gomez finished 3 for 4 with a run scored. Casper and Castillo each scored a run and had a double.
Castillo took the loss (4-6) as she pitched eight innings giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

The Aztecs will play an ACCAC doubleheader on the road on Tuesday as they travel to Mesa Community College. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
