(TUCSON, AZ) The Tucson Sugar Skulls signed one of the top linebackers in the Indoor Football League and two other veteran players as the team continued to fill its preseason roster with training camp set to open Friday.
The Sugar Skulls also completed Head Coach Marcus Coleman’s first staff with the hiring of offensive line coach Don Wnek.
Zachary Allen, an all-Indoor Football League linebacker who was with the 2018 league-champion Iowa Barnstormers last year, has reunited with Coach Coleman, who was the Barnstormers defensive coordinator last year. Allen and Sugar Skulls teammate Keith Jones Jr. were both named to the IFL’s first team defense in 2018.
Allen, 6’4” and 240 pounds, is in his third year in the Indoor
Football League. He played linebacker and defensive end for the Barnstormers. Allen started 24 games in a four-year career at Wake Forest University.

Shadrach Thornton, running back, 6’0”, 215 pounds, North Carolina State University, Arizona Rattlers. Thornton rushed for 2,572 yards in four seasons at North Carolina State. He got a tryout with the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League before joining the Arizona Rattlers for the 2018 season. Rushed for 260 yards and seven touchdowns in six games with the Rattlers.
Donovan Rasberry, wide receiver, 5’8”, 175 pounds, Winston-Salem State University. After four years at Winston-Salem, played two years in the Champions Indoor Football League with the Centrex Cavalry and Salina Liberty. After finishing his college career had a tryout with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.
Coach Wnek has more than 40 years of coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level at Indiana University, Baylor University and the University of Illinois, and in the Canadian Football League. Most recently, he has been involved with free agent scouting camps preparing players for professional football. He also provides private training for draft eligible free-agent defensive linemen. Wnek recently moved to Tucson and is the father of former University of Arizona defensive lineman Eli Wnek.
