(Tucson, AZ) The Arizona Community College Athletic Conference made its selections for All-ACCAC conference and All-Region on Wednesday.
Sophomore guard Jacqulynn Nakai (Coconino HS) became the first Pima women’s basketball player to be named outright ACCAC Player of the Year for both Division I and Division II. She was also selected first team All-ACCAC and first team All-Region I, Division II.
Nakai broke the Pima women’s basketball record in career points held by Tia Morrison since 2010. She currently has 1,249 points. Nakai set a new program record in assists and was named ACCAC Division II Player of the Week nine times in her Pima career which broke Sydni Stallworth’s (Palo Verde HS) record of eight selections.
Prior to Tuesday’s game in Glendale, Nakai led the conference in averaging 24.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 2.0 steals. She played in 29 games this season; making 28 starts.
Sophomore forward Shauna Bribiescas (Dobson HS) was selected second team All-ACCAC and first team All-Region I, Division II. She was named ACCAC Division II Player of the Week twice this season.
Prior to Tuesday’s game in Glendale, Bribiescas produced nine double-doubles in points and rebounds as she averaged 16.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.2 blocks per game. She played in all 30 regular season games; making 29 starts.
The Aztecs will be the No. 1 seed for the NJCAA Region I, Division II Tournament. They will host No. 4 Chandler-Gilbert Community College in the semifinal round on Tuesday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
