LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Arizona Wildcats (8-1) won their seventh-straight game by a score of 70-43 over Long Beach State on Sunday afternoon in the Walter Pyramid. The nation’s leading scorer Aari McDonald scored 17 points while Sam Thomas poured in a season-high 16.
The defense was once again outstanding for Arizona as they forced The Beach to shoot 33% from the field and forced 18 turnovers. Tee Tee Starks led the way with three steals.
Destiny Graham returned from injury and had a nice game off the bench, scoring eight points and brought down four rebounds in 20 minutes. Dominique McBryde led everyone with nine rebounds while Cate Reese and Semaj Smith pitched in six apiece to help Arizona win the rebounding battle 52-29.
Arizona scored the first 11 points of the game and would take a 20-9 lead into the second quarter. The Wildcats would extend their lead to 35-22 heading into the locker room for halftime. Thomas led all scorers in the first half with nine points in just seven minutes.
The Wildcats picked it up offensively on the back of McDonald in the third quarter as they scored 20 points, 12 by McDonald. The Cats took a 19-point lead into the fourth quarter and were able to close out the game with no issues.
Arizona will have about a week off for finals and then will face UTEP in McKale Center on Monday, Dec. 17. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. MST.
