(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Aztecs had some home cooking against Benedictine University from Mesa, a four year school that plays in the CAL-PAC Athletic Conference. The game was against their Developemental squad.
Early on, the Aztecs had the eye for the three pointer as they opened up a 17-9 lead.
This year’s Pima team as in the past, likes or push the ball on every possession. In this particular game, the Aztecs had a decisive height advantage, but the shots beyond the arc were still in abundance.
At intermission Pima held a commmading lead 68-43. Sophomore guard Abram Carrasco was on fire going 8-10 from the field including 4-6 from three point land. Sophomore forward Kennedy Koehler also has a stellar first half as well shooting 77.7% on a 7-9 performance and 3-5 from beyond the arc.
Pima with their height advantage out rebounded the Red Hawks 24-11.
The field goal percentage was naturally as lopsided at the score 69.4% to 47.1%. When a team shots 47% from the field normally you’re happy from a coaching standpoint.
Coming out of the break Carrasco nailed his first three pointer, as the Aztecs started where they left off completely dominating both sides of the court and hit the 100 point mark with 11:45 left in the game on a baseline three pointer by freshman Dylan Newell to make the score 101-52.
After that, Head Coach Brian Peabody called off the dogs, they inserting his second string and freshman players.
Even with the reserves in the game, Pima outscored the Redhawks 36-31.
For the Aztecs, it was a “Stat Game.” Pima outshot the Redhawks 69% to 43% and the rebounding margin was just as large 49-25.
Pima’s one-two punch of Abrams and Carrasco has 29 and 24 points respectively. Six Aztecs scored in double figures.
Final from the West Campus 137-83.
The only negative in the game that Peabody will have to adress is the 83 points the Redhawks finished with.
Next up, the Aztec Classic on December 28th at 4 pm.
