(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (22-2) added more firsts to itsstoried history on Saturday after claiming the NJCAA West District title.
Sophomore Hugo Kametani scored the golden goal in the 101st minute (17 seconds into the second overtime) as the No. 3 ranked Aztecs beat No. 11 Snow College 1-0. The Aztecs advance to play in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament.
Sophomore Abraham Espinoza (Saguaro HS) had the assist in the game-winning goal. Freshman goalkeeper Nils Roth made two crucial saves in the 95th and 97th minutes of the first overtime. He finished the game with six saves.
The Aztecs earned their 22nd win of the season which set a new program record for wins in a single season.
This is the first time in program history the Aztecs have won the ACCAC conference title, the Region I, Division I championship and the West District championship in one season.
The Aztecs also finished undefeated with a 14-0 at Kino North Stadium for the first time.
The Aztecs will play in the NJCAA Division I Tournament from Nov. 12-17 in Daytona, FL.
