(TUCSON, AZ) Cate Reese has been named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week after her 19-point and 16-rebound performance against South Carolina State on Friday. Reese becomes Arizona’s first Pac-12 Freshman of the Week in school history.
Reese, who averages 16.8 points and 9.6 rebounds per game through the first five games of her career, led all scorers and rebounders in Friday’s dominating win over South Carolina State. She became the first Wildcat to grab at least 16 rebounds in a game since Davellyn Whyte (Feb. 19, 2013) and is the first freshman to do so since Shawntinice Polk (Mar. 23, 2003).
In the Pac-12, Reese is 11th in scoring and third in rebounding while being first among all freshmen in both scoring and rebounding. She is still the only player in the Pac-12 who has yet to miss a free throw and is one of two freshmen with multiple double-doubles.
Her two 20-point games this season is the most of any freshman in the Pac-12 and her 16 rebounds is the most any freshman has had in one game while being tied for the third-most any player in the Pac-12 has had in one game.
Nationally, Reese is the seventh-leading scorer and 10th-leading rebounder among all freshmen in the country.
Next up for Reese and the Wildcats is Incarnate Word tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. MST in McKale Center before they head to San Diego for a one-game road trip against the Aztecs of San Diego State on Sunday, Dec. 2.
