(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College volleyball team (12-11, 5-6 in ACCAC) rallied after dropping the first set to dominate Phoenix College on Tuesday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
The Aztecs took control after dropping the first set to beat the Bears in four sets (17-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-15).
The Aztecs led for much of the second set as sophomore Lyrica Tavesi (Pima HS) put down the final kill to tie the match.
The Aztecs fell behind 7-1 in the third set but chipped away and took their first lead at 12-11. Up 18-17, the Aztecs scored four straight points to take a 22-17 advantage.
Up 7-6 in the fourth set, the Aztecs scored six straight points and went up by as much as 11 points on two occasions towards the end of the set.
Freshmen Madi Nash (Sahuaro HS) and Jade Romine (Canyon del Oro HS) each finished with double-doubles in kills and digs. Nash had 18 kills and 17 digs while Romine posted 11 kills and 14 digs.
Tavesi finished with 12 kills while freshman Kendall Deeter (Mountain View HS) had eight kills and five blocks. Sophomore Kaitlin Schmich (Mountain View HS) posted 33 assists.
The Aztecs hit the road on Wednesday to play at Glendale Community College at 7:00 p.m.
