The Pima Community College men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Mt. SAC CC Invitational in Walnut, CA on Friday.
Sophomore Katherine Bruno (Canyon del Oro HS) won her third straight race as she finished the women’s 3-mile race with a time of 18 minutes, 13.0 seconds. She was named NJCAA Division I National Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Freshman Mary Siml finished the race in fifth place out of 92 competitors with a time of 19:22. The Aztecs finished in third place out of nine teams with a score of 74 points. Mesa Community College took second with 52 points.
In the men’s 4-mile race, freshman Luis Tarazon (Desert View HS) was the top finisher for the Aztecs. He took 15th place with a time of 22:08.
The Aztecs took sixth place out of 14 teams in the final team standings with 172 points. Mesa Community College finished with 83 points. The Aztecs beat out Glendale Community College (239) and Estrella Mountain Community College (285).
The Aztecs will compete in the NJCAA Region I Championships on Monday, Oct. 29 at Freestone Park in Gilbert, AZ. The women’s race will be at 9:00 a.m. and the men’s race will follow at 9:45 a.m.
