The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (5-4-2) had to battle back against Arizona Western College (11-0) but were unable to hand the Matadors their first defeat.
The Aztecs tied the game twice but could not overtake No. 4 ranked Arizona Western College in their 3-2 loss at Kino North Stadium.
Down 1-0, the Aztecs turned to sophomore Annalisa Verdugo (Pueblo HS), who scored on a sliding kick in the 37th minute with the cross assist from freshman Maya Ahumada(Tucson HS).
The Aztecs fell behind 2-1 but tied it again after freshman Alexis Tapia (Sahuaro HS) scored on a penalty kick in the 56th minute. The Matadors took the lead for good with a goal in the 77th minute.
Freshman Haven Chambers (Walden Grove HS) finished the game with six saves.
The Aztecs will play at Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
