With an early 10 am start to the Cactus Classic, Dave Rubio’s team came ready to play.
There was another reason to come out strong. Last year the Bison unexpectedly beat the Wildcats in a match that left Head Coach Dave Rubio shaking his head.
The first match Arizona won handily 25-17 in a game that wasn’t really as close as the eight point deficit. Good passing, setting and kills had Lipscomb.
In the second match, the Bison had more success moving their passes around to avoid the big blockers of Arizona but still found themselves chasing Arizona.
At the 16-10 mark, senior Kendra Dahlke smashed her way to her 1000th kill shot. Dahlke has been a steady force for Rubio since she gave up playing Beach Volleyball in favor of Indoor.
Liscomb still came up short after pulling within two points 14-16 as the Cats ran off five consecutive points and put it away with a 9-5 run to win 25-20.
The third and final set also went to the U of A as their front line shut down the Bison’s attack getting multiple blocks and won going away 25-13.
