Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College women’s tennis team had one singles and two doubles teams advance in their respected consolation flights on Tuesday after the third day of the NJCAA Division I Tournament.
Freshman Meghan Houk (Corona del Sol HS) earned two victories in the No. 3 singles consolation bracket. She beat Ashton Tewell from Lewis & Clark Community College (IL) 8-1 in the quarterfinals and shut out Julie Pruneda from Waubonsee Community College (IL) 8-0 in the semifinals.
Two of the doubles teams also advanced to the semifinals in their consolation brackets. The No. 2 doubles team of Houk and sophomore Lien Nguyen defeated Ashlynn Miller and Kasey Steward from Jacksonville (TX) 8-1.
The No. 3 doubles duo of Ashley Fitzsimmons (Walden Grove HS) and Jayme Shafer (Tucson HS) won a tie-breaker over Ksenija Dmitrovic and Thamires Lima from Barton Community College (KS) 9-8 (6) to advance.
Freshman Ashley Fitzsimmons (Walden Grove HS) fell in her No. 5 singles flight quarterfinal match to No. 2 ranked Shaylee Syme from Hillsborough (FL) 6-0, 6-0.
The Aztecs continue competition on Thursday at the Waco Regional Tennis and Fitness Center in Waco, TX. Here is a list of Pima’s matches on Wednesday:
