Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College baseball team (21-31, 11-29 in ACCAC) closed out the 2018 season on Saturday at the West Campus Aztec Baseball Field.
The Aztecs got a dominant pitching performance from freshman Mason Myhre (Canyon del Oro HS) as the Aztecs split with Chandler-Gilbert Community College (23-33, 10-30).
Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 7, Chandler-Gilbert CC Coyotes 1 (7 innings): Myhre put on a show as he tossed a no-hitter giving up one run (one earned) with 11 strikeouts and three walks. He hit the first two batters he faced and with two outs, the Coyotes scored on a sacrifice-fly RBI.
The Aztecs responded in the bottom of the 1st inning with four runs. Freshman Michael Wong hit a sacrifice-fly RBI to score freshman Enrique Porchas (Kofa HS). With the bases loaded and two outs, the Aztecs caught a break when a throw sailed over the first base side and Marcus Mendez (Desert View HS), freshman Rafael Padilla (Nogales HS) and freshman Javier Nava came in to score.
Mendez hit a two-run RBI double with two outs in the 6th inning to give the Aztecs some insurance. Pinch runner Thomas Garcia (Tucson HS) and Porchas scored the runs.
Mendez finished 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Porchas was 2 for 2 with two runs scored while Padilla went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Game 2: Chandler-Gilbert CC Coyotes 4, Pima CC Aztecs 2: The Aztecs got on the scoreboard first but the Coyotes scored one run in each the 2nd and 4th innings and tacked on two more in the 6th. The Aztecs left nine runners on base for the game.
Wong hit an RBI single to drive in Porchas in the 1st inning. Sophomore Juan Durazo hit an RBI double in the 6th inning to score pinch runner Matthew Hackman (Empire HS) but the rally was cut short from there.
Wong and Durazo each finished 1 for 4 with an RBI. Freshman Elisandro Diaz (Salpointe Catholic HS) went 3 for 5 while Ferreira was 2 for 4.
Sophomore Troy Gutbub (Catalina Foothills HS) took the loss (3-2) as he pitched five innings giving up two runs (two earned) on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

The Aztecs had 10 sophomores and 16 freshman on this year’s squad.
