Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College baseball team (16-22, 8-20 in ACCAC) continues to slide as it fell to No. 10 ranked Central Arizona College on Tuesday in Coolidge.
The Aztecs scored four runs for the day as freshman Matthew Hackman (Empire HS) provided three of them. Freshman Javier Nava was 3 for 6 at the plate.
Game 1: (10) Central Arizona College Vaqueros 4, Pima CC Aztecs 1 (7 innings): The Aztecs cut Central’s lead in half in the 5th inning but the Vaqueros added insurance runs in the 7th and 8th innings.
Down 2-0 in the 5th, sophomore Marcus Mendez (Desert View HS) led off with a single. He later stole home to put the Aztecs on the board. He finished 1 for 3 with a run scored. Nava went 1 for 2 and sophomore Martin Garcia (Tucson HS) was 1 for 1 with a walk. The Aztecs managed three hits for the game.
Freshman Adam Moraga (Sunnyside HS) pitched another solid game as he went six innings giving up four runs (one earned) on five hits with three strikeouts.

Game 2: (10) Central Arizona College Vaqueros 11, Pima CC Aztecs 3: The Aztecs cut into Central’s lead but surrendered eight runs in the 6th inning.
Hackman pitch ran for freshman Fabian Ferreira (Tucson HS) and scored runs in the 3rd, 5th and 7th innings. Freshman Rafael Padilla (Nogales HS) cut it to 3-2 when he hit an RBI single to drive in Hackman in the 5th. Garcia hit sacrifice fly RBI to score Hackman in the 7th.
Padilla was 1 for 4 with an RBI. Ferreira and Nava each went 2 for 4 while freshman Michael Wong finished 1 for 2 with two walks.
Freshman Ryon Craig (Cienega HS) took the loss (2-2) as he started and threw four innings giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits with one strikeout and one walk.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Baseball Field on Saturday when they host Arizona Western College. The first game starts at noon.
