Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College baseball team (20-28, 10-26 in ACCAC) struggle to contain Phoenix College’s (29-23, 20-14) offense on Saturday at the West Campus Aztec Baseball Field.
Game 1: Phoenix College Bears 9, Pima CC Aztecs 0 (7 innings): The Bears held the Pima offense in check as the Aztecs managed five hits for the game. The Aztecs did not advance a runner past second base.
Sophomore Marcus Mendez (Desert View HS) and freshman Rafael Padilla (Nogales HS) each finished 2 for 3 while sophomore Jesus Solis (Nogales HS) went 1 for 2.
Freshman Mason Myhre (Canyon del Oro HS) took the loss (0-2) after he pitched one and two third innings giving up two runs (two earned) on two hits with three strikeouts and four walks.

Game 2: Phoenix College Bears 13, Pima CC Aztecs 5: The Aztecs took the lead after the 1stinning but the Bears’ offense became too much.
They took command with two runs in the 3rd and 4th innings. They scored six in the 5th and two more insurance runs in the 6th inning.
Freshman Javier Nava put the Aztecs on the board with a groundout RBI to score freshman Enrique Porchas (Kofa HS). Freshman Michael Wong hit an RBI single to plate Mendez to give the Aztecs a 2-0 lead.
In the 2nd inning, Porchas hit an RBI single to score freshman ElisandroDiaz (Salpointe Catholic HS) to give Pima a 3-1 advantage.
The Aztecs tacked on a couple of runs in the 6th inning. Freshmen Fabian Ferreira (Tucson HS) and Diaz hit back-to-back RBI singles to score Wong and freshman Matthew Hackman (Empire HS).
Porchas finished the game going 4 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored. Ferreira went 1 for 3 with an RBI while Padilla was 1 for 2 with two walks.
Freshman Ryon Craig (Cienega HS) took the loss (3-2) as he pitched one inning in relief giving up two runs (two earned) on three hits with one strikeout.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Baseball Field on Tuesday when they host Glendale Community College in an ACCAC doubleheader. The first game starts at noon.
