Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College baseball team (16-20, 8-18 in ACCAC) struggled with errors on Saturday as it dropped two games against Cochise College (29-11, 14-6) at the West Campus Baseball Field.
The Aztecs committed 10 errors on the day and have lost 10 of their last 12 games.
Freshman Michael Wong was a bright spot for the Aztecs as he pitched a solid first game and did his part on offense in the second game.
Game 1: Cochise College Apaches 3, Pima CC Aztecs 0 (7 innings): The Aztecs stranded five runners and managed four hits.
Freshman Javier Nava hit a leadoff double in the 5th inning and advanced to third base on a sacrifice with one out but the Aztecs couldn’t bring him in.
Nava and freshman Matthew Hackman (Empire HS) finished the game 1 for 3 while freshmen Rafael Padilla (Nogales HS) and Elisandro Diaz (Salpointe Catholic HS) each went 1 for 2.
Wong took the loss (2-5) as he threw five and one-third innings giving up three runs (one earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and three walks.

Game 2: Cochise College Apaches 10, Pima CC Aztecs 4: The Apaches scored four runs in each the 2nd and 9th innings as the Aztecs struggled on defense committing seven errors for the game.
The Aztecs took the lead after the 1st inning when sophomore Marcus Mendez (Desert View HS) scored on an error. Wong gave Pima the lead at 2-1 with an RBI single to plate Padilla.
In the 4th inning, freshman Enrique Porchas (Kofa HS) scored on an error and Wong drew a bases loaded walk to cut Cochise’s to 5-4 but the rally was cut short from there.
Wong finished 4 for 4 with two RBIs while Mendez went 2 for 5 with a run scored.
Freshman pitcher Max Fimbres (St. Augustine Catholic HS) took the loss (0-1) as he pitched one and two-third innings giving up four runs (four earned) on one hit with one strikeout and two walks.

The Aztecs will be on the road on Tuesday when they play at Central Arizona College in Coolidge, AZ. First pitch is scheduled at 12:00 p.m.
