Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College softball team (27-11, 18-10 in ACCAC) got back to ACCAC Division I competition on Thursday at Central Arizona College in Coolidge.
The Aztecs fell in the first game but responded in a big way on offense to earn the split for the day. Sophomore Megan Flores (Salpointe Catholic HS) had a big game at the plate in the second game.
Game 1: Central Arizona College Vaqueras 4, Pima CC Aztecs 1: The Vaqueras struck in the first inning with three runs while the Aztecs stranded seven runners on base for the game.
The Aztecs got on the board when freshman Alese Casper hit a sacrifice-fly RBI to score Alizea Durazo-Corday (Pueblo HS) with two outs in the 7th inning.
Corday finished 2 for 3 with a run scored. Sophomore Chandler Arviso (Cibola HS) also went 2 for 3 while Flores was 1 for 2 with a triple.
Freshman Paige Adair took the loss (16-4) after she pitched four innings giving up four runs (one earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and four walks.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 11, Central Arizona College Vaqueras 2 (5 innings): The Aztecs got on the scoreboard early and scored four runs in each the third and fifth innings to earn the mercy rule victory.
Flores hit an RBI double to score Casper in the 1st inning. She was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the third inning and hit a two-run RBI double in the fifth inning.
Corday hit a solo home run in the 2nd inning to put the Aztecs up 3-0. She also had a groundout RBI in the 3rd inning to make it 4-0 and hit an RBI single in the fifth inning to plate Flores.
Flores finished the game 2 for 3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. She also had two doubles for the game. Corday went 1 for 3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Casper was 2 for 3 with two runs scored while freshman Sarrah Jones went 2 for 3 with a run scored. Maria Vanezza Caldera (Tucson HS) finished 2 for 4 with an RBI single in the fifh inning and a run scored.
Sophomore Sierra Gentry picked up the win (4-1) as she pitched all five innings giving up two runs (two earned) on seven hits with three walks.

The Aztecs will cap off another busy week on Saturday when they play at Mesa Community College in an ACCAC doubleheader. First pitch will be at noon.
