Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College women’s tennis team (4-0) continues to roll through the ACCAC conference competition as it beat Paradise Valley Community College to remain undefeated.
The Aztecs swept through doubles competition to begin the match. Sophomores Emma Oropeza (Nogales HS) and Janine Fernando (Sabino HS) defeated Kelly Slattery and Baylee Decker at No. 1 doubles 8-4. Freshman Meghan Houk (Corona del Sol) and sophomore Lien Nguyen earned a shutout win at No. 2 doubles beating Cheyanna Anderson and Ali Ambriz 8-0. The No. 3 doubles duo of Ashley Fitzsimmons (Walden Grove HS) and sophomore Jayme Shafer (Tucson HS) beat Calli Chance and Leah Bookfinder 8-1.
In singles competition, Fernando won her No. 2 singles match over Anderson 6-2, 6-2 while Houk downed Decker 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
Nguyen beat Ambriz 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles and Fitzsimmons earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Chance at No. 5 singles. Shafer shut out Bookfinder in the No. 6 singles match 6-0, 6-0.
Oropeza fell in her No. 1 singles match against Slattery 6-3, 6-1.
The Aztecs begin the second half of the season on Tuesday when they play at Eastern Arizona College at 1:30 p.m. in Thatcher. The Aztecs beat the Gila Monsters 5-4 last month at the West Campus Tennis Courts.
