Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College men’s tennis team (0-2) dropped a tough match on Tuesday at Glendale Community College.
The Aztecs won two of the three doubles matches but dropped some close singles matches in their 6-3 loss to the Gauchos.
In doubles competition, freshmen Tomothy Ou and Scott Mantelman won their No. 1 doubles match over Abdella Mohammed and Bruno Deschamps 8-4. The No. 3 doubles duo of freshmen Chris McDaniels (Tanque Verde HS) and Beau Boyer (Cibola HS) won a tie-breaker over Jared McMurdic and Jose Hernandez 9-8.
Sophomore Francisco Sotelo (Cholla HS) and freshman Jonathan Wu fell in their No. 2 singles match to Hayate Sakaguchi and Charlie Zwolsman 8-2.
Boyer was the only Pima player to gain a win in singles competition as he beat Hernandez 6-4, 6-1.
Ou played a tough No. 1 singles match as he lost a tie-breaking first set but came back to win the second set. He fell in the end to Mohammed 7-6 (7-1), 1-6, 6-4. Mantelman played a close No. 3 singles match but fell to Zwolsman 7-5, 7-5. Wu also almost forced a tie-breaker in the second set but dropped his match at No. 4 singles 6-2, 7-5.
Sotelo lost his No. 2 singles match to Sakaguchi 6-4, 6-3 and McDaniels fell to Deschamps 6-3, 6-4 in their No. 5 singles match.
The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Tennis Courts on Thursday when they host Paradise Valley Community College at 1:30 p.m.
