Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (23-2, 15-2 in ACCAC) scorched the basket to start the game and went on to earn its ninth straight win on Saturday over Scottsdale Community College (10-15, 5-12).
The No. 5 ranked Aztecs started 8 for 12 in three-pointers and 12 for 18 in the first half as they beat the Artichokes 111-71 to earned their 18th victory in 19 games.
The Aztecs took a 65-32 lead at the break and went 22 for 33 (67 percent) from the field in the half.
The Aztecs were led by sophomore Isaiah Murphy (Cienega HS), who finished with a game-high 28 points on 9 for 12 shooting and 7 for 8 from three-point range. Freshman Abram Carrasco (Cholla HS) was also ablaze on the court as he scored 21 points on 9 for 11 shooting and 6 for 7 from long range.
Sophomore Justin Bessard scored 15 points with nine rebounds, four blocks and three steals off the bench. Sophomore Alize Travis scored 13 points on 4 for 6 shooting with seven assists while freshman Jeremiah Bailey had a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds off the bench.
The win also gave Brian Peabody the most victories he’s had in a single season as Pima’s head coach.
The Aztecs swept the Artichokes in their regular season head-to-head meetings. The Aztecs won a tight game 101-99 last month in Scottsdale.
The Aztecs will face a tough test on Wednesday when they play at Cochise College (Division I) at 7:30 p.m. in Douglas. Pima won 87-84 last month at the West Campus Gym.
