Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College softball team (16-6, 9-5 in ACCAC) earned its second straight ACCAC conference sweep on Tuesday.
The Aztecs scored 27 runs against Chandler-Gilbert Community College (7-7, 7-7) and took home two mercy-rule victories. Sophomore Sierra Gentry hit two homeruns and finished with eight RBIs and five runs scored for the day. Freshman Paige Adair picked up another two wins on the mound.
Game 1 Pima CC Aztecs 11, Chandler-Gilbert CC Coyotes 1 (5 innings): The Aztecs started the barrage in the 1st inning with five runs and then another four runs in the 2nd inning.
Gentry hit a two-run RBI double in the 1st and capped off the 2nd inning with a three-run homer. Sophomore Alyse Talamante, this week’s ACCAC Division II Player of the Week, continued her hot streak with a three-run home run in the 1st inning. Sophomore MaryAlys Julian (Gila Ridge HS) hit an RBI double in the 4th.
Gentry went 2 for 3 with five RBIs and two runs scored. Talamante was 1 for 3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Julian went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored while freshman Alyse Casper finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Sophomore Megan Flores (Salpointe Catholic HS) was 2 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Adair picked up the win (14-1) as she pitched all five innings giving up one run (one earned) on four hits with eight strikeouts.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 16, Chandler-Gilbert CC Coyotes 8 (5 innings): The Aztecs scored in every inning and closed out the game with six runs in the 5th inning. Freshman Mya Cabral (Pueblo HS) hit a two-run RBI double and scored two batters later when Julian reached on an error to end the game.
Down 7-6 in the 4th inning, the Aztecs scored four runs to retake the lead. Alizea Durazo-Corday (Pueblo HS) hit a two-run RBI single to get the lead back for the Aztecs. Cabral followed with a two-run homer to make it 10-7.
Gentry hit her second home run of the day with a three-run blast in the 1st inning. She finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Cabral was a perfect 4 for 4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Corday went 2 for 2 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Casper was 2 for 2 with three runs scored and two walks while sophomore Edith Prieto (Sunnyside HS) finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Adair picked up her 15th win of the season (15-1) in a relief appearance. She threw the final one and one-third innings giving up one run (one earned) on three hits with one strikeout.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Softball Field on Saturday when they host Phoenix College. First pitch is at noon.
