Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College softball team (12-6, 5-5 in ACCAC) returned to the West Campus Softball Field on Wednesday for an ACCAC conference doubleheader against Eastern Arizona College (17-4, 10-2).
The Aztecs rallied to win the first game but the Gila Monsters had one big inning to turn the tide in the second game. Freshman Alese Casper went 4 for 6 while sophomore Alyse Talamante was 3 for 6 on the day.
Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 7, Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters 6: The Aztecs scored five runs in the bottom of the 7th inning.
Sophomore Megan Flores (Salpointe Catholic HS) hit a game-winning RBI single to score fellow sophomore Chandler Arviso (Cibola HS).
Down 6-2 heading into the inning, freshman Paige Adair hit a sacrifice-fly RBI. Arviso and Casper hit back-to-back RBI singles. The Gila Monster had two errors in the inning.
Flores had an RBI in the in the 3rd inning and finished 3 for 5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Arviso scored a run in the 3rd and had an RBI single in the 6th inning to finish 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Casper went 2 for 4 with an RBI while Talamante finished 2 for 3 with a run scored.
Adair picked up the win (11-1) as she pitched a complete-game giving up six runs (five earned) on 12 hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

Game 2: Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters 13, Pima CC Aztecs 5 (5 innings): The Aztecs struck in the 1st inning but the Gila Monsters scored 12 runs in the 5th inning to take control.
Sophomore Sierra Gentry drew a bases loaded walk and Talamante followed with a grand slam to put the Aztecs up 5-0 after the 1st inning.
The Gila Monsters got on the board with a run in the 3rd inning before their barrage in the 5th.
Talamante finished 1 for 3 with four RBIs and a run scored. Casper was 2 for 2 with a run scored while sophomore Edith Prieto (Sunnyside HS) went 1 for 2 with a run scored.
Casper took the loss (1-5) as she pitched four and two-third innings giving up six runs (six earned) on seven hits with one strikeout and three walks.

The Aztecs will head back on the road on Saturday when they play at Scottsdale Community College. The first game will start at 5:00 p.m.
