Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (17-5, 11-3 in ACCAC) suffered a rare loss against a Division II team on Wednesday as the Aztecs fell at Glendale Community College (12-8, 8-6).
The No. 5 ranked Aztecs loss 77-73 and marks just the second defeat to a Division II opponent this season.
The Aztecs were up 20-17 after the first quarter of play but were outscored 26-15 for the second to trail 43-35 at the break. The Aztecs struggled to get the edge in the third quarter and fell short in the comeback bid despite outscoring the Gauchos 28-24 in the fourth quarter.
Freshman Shauna Bribiescas (Dobson HS) scored a team-high 22 points as she netted 13 in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Izzy Spruit (Mesquite HS) hit four 3-pointers as she finished with 13 points. Sophomore Christine Ortega (Flowing Wells HS) contributed with 11 points.
The Aztecs split the head-to-head meetings with the Gauchos. Pima won back in November 84-59 at the West Campus Gymnasium.
The Aztecs return to the West Campus Gymnasium on Saturday against Eastern Arizona College. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
