Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College baseball team (11-9, 3-7 in ACCAC) responded in the second game after a lackluster performance on offense in the first game on Saturday at the West Campus Baseball Field.
The Aztecs snapped a five-game losing streak with the win in the second game. This was their third ACCAC doubleheader split.
Game 1: Paradise Valley CC Pumas 5, Pima CC Aztecs 0 (7 innings): The Aztecs managed just two hits for the game. Sophomore Logan Klunder went 1 for 2 while freshman Juan Durazo (Salpointe Catholic HS) finished 1 for 3.
Freshman Michael Wong took the loss (1-2) as he pitched six and one-third innings giving up five runs (five earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts and three walks.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 7, Paradise Valley CC Pumas 2: The Aztecs struck first in the 2nd inning but had to rally to take the second game. Pima scored four runs in the 8th inning to help their cause.
Down 2-1 in the bottom of the 5th, freshman Rafael Padilla (Nogales HS) hit an RBI single to tie the game and score freshman Elisandro Diaz (Salpointe Catholic HS). The Aztecs took the lead at 3-2 in the 6th inning when freshman Fabian Ferreria (Tucson HS) hit a groundout RBI to plate sophomore Martin Garcia (Tucson HS).
Sophomore Jesus Solis (Nogales HS) and Wong each had RBI singles as part of the 8th inning surge.
Diaz hit an RBI double to put Pima on the board in the 2nd inning as he finished 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Garcia went 2 for 4 with a run scored. Padilla and Solis each went 1 for 3 with an RBI and two walks. Wong was 1 for 4 with an RBI and a walk.
Sophomore Jose Contreras (Tucson HS) picked up the win in a relief appearance (3-2). He threw three shutout innings giving up three hits with one strikeout and one walk. Sophomore Troy Gutbub (Catalina Foothills HS) started the game and pitched five innings giving up two runs (two earned) on three hits with four strikeouts and three walks.

The Aztecs will play an ACCAC conference doubleheader at Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Tuesday in Chandler, AZ. First pitch is at 12:00 p.m.
