Sabino was ready to roll as they hit the field on a pleasant Fall evening in Northeast Tucson.
As Alex Bell was warming up his rifle arm, little did he know that his running back Isaiah Smotherman would take the load off and carry the team on his back.
These Cats would never be threatened even when the Fountain Hills got within eleven points.
Time and time again, Smotherman would hit the open holes and with his low center of gravity would power through on long gains and also setting up the Sabino offense in advantageous second or third downs and short yardage to go for the first down.
Bell, who’s has a rocket for an arm, only passes for 88 yards, but made the most of it by tossing three touchdown passes without an interception.
This 2017 Sabino team has a prolific offense and a sound game plan week by week set up by Head Coach Ryan McBreyer.
Tonight, the defense would get its fair share of credit stopping a very talented Falcon offense from putting together sustained drives throughout the game.
Yes, Fountain Hills scored twenty points, but most of it came too little, too late.
Only when they had to air it out were they moderately successful. Credit the defensive adjustments of the Sabercats coaching staff for that.
And the end of the night, Bell and Smotherman did their job offensively and the defense came through like champs.
Next Thursday with a short week of practice, these kids from the campus at Harrison Road and Bowes Road will be fired up to take on the Chargers of Ben Franklin High in Queen Creek.
If Smotherman can be as elusive and Bell continue his accuracy, the Sabercats will come back home ready for their next challenge.
Looming in the dark is the Lions from Pusch Ridge Christian Academy who blew out Wickenburg tonight 67-0.
