NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Arizona (2-3) dropped a close one to Cal State Northridge (1-5) on Saturday night in the Matadome by a score of 66-63, rounding out Arizona’s four-game road trip.
Destiny Graham scored a career-high 16 points on 7-12 shooting while adding in four rebounds. The junior has now scored in double-figures three times this season after only scoring in double-figures three times coming into this season.
JaLea Bennett attacked the rim ferociously tonight as she scored 18 points while grabbing a career-high eight rebounds and blocking a career-high three shots.
CSUN won the game on the glass tonight as they grabbed 21 offensive rebounds and turned that into 14 second-chance points, while Arizona only had seven second-chance points.
The first couple minutes of the game belonged to CSUN as they got out to a 14-6 lead in the first five minutes, but the Wildcats turned up the defense, outscoring them 27-14 in the next 15 minutes of the half, giving Arizona a 33-28 lead at half. Marlee Kyles and Bennett gave the offense a jolt in the second quarter as Kyles scored seven and Bennett scored six in the period.
CSUN responded well in the third quarter outscoring Arizona 17-12, tying the game up going into the fourth quarter. In the final period, CSUN was able to outlast the Wildcats with good defense and more offensive rebounding. Serafina Maulupe finished the game with 20 points and Channon Fluker scored 19.
Arizona will head back home tomorrow morning for their second home game of the season against Long Beach State on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. MST.
