Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College football team (2-8, 0-6 in WSFL) fell one score short after it produced a tremendous rally in the second half to force overtime on Saturday.
The Aztecs lost in double overtime to Glendale Community College 37-30 to close out their home schedule for the 2017 season at Kino North Stadium.
Quarterbacks Caleb Ryden and KC Moore were sacked on the final two plays of the game to end it.
Down 23-7 late in the third quarter, the Aztecs rallied off 16 unanswered points. Sophomore running back Tiger Geeslin scored on a 2-yard run with seven seconds left in the third quarter to make it 23-14.
The Aztecs forced the Gauchos to punt on their next two possessions and cut into the lead when Ryden found freshman Ronson Young for the 30-yard touchdown pass. On Glendale’s next possession, freshman Jordan Hightower intercepted quarterback Akil Abdullah as the Aztecs took over at their own 4-yardline with 4:33 left in the game.
Freshman DeMarco Corbin had a 47-yard run on the second play of the drive and put Pima in Glendale territory. The drive was capped by sophomore Coby Oswalt’s 43 yard field goal to tie the game at 23-23 with 1:06 left in regulation.
The Aztecs took the first lead in overtime when Geeslin scored on a 14-yard run. The Gauchos responded with a three-play drive to tie the game at 30-30 and took the lead for good when Abdullah hit Sinclair Farinholt for a 14-yard score on the first possession of the second overtime.
The Aztecs scored the first points of the game when KC Moore ran it in from 2-yards out but the Gauchos went on to score 23 unanswered points (17 points off of Pima turnovers).
The Aztecs will close out the season next Saturday when they play at Mesa Community College at 7:00 p.m.
