Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (15-1-3) earned its third straight shutout victory on Tuesday at Mesa Community College (6-12-1).
Freshman Daisuke Takanaka secured a hat trick in the first half as the No. 5 ranked Aztecs defeated the Thunderbirds 6-0. The Aztecs are 13-0-2 in their last 15 games and have won five straight.
Takanaka scored his goals in the 23rd, 35th and 40th minutes. Sophomores Julian Gaona (Tucson HS) and Tatsuma Yuki had assists on the first two goals.
Gaona put the Aztecs up 4-0 with his goal in the 47th minute that was assisted by freshman Jose Romero. Freshmen Ricky Flores (Desert View HS) and Alan Gomez (Amphitheater HS) added goals in the 57th and 77thminutes respectively to seal it.
The Aztecs dominated field possession as they outshot the Thunderbirds 13-1 for the game. Freshman David Silva finished with one save.
The Aztecs will close out the regular season on Thursday when they play at Arizona Western College at 7:00 p.m.
