Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College women’s soccer (14-4-1) continued its dominant play on Tuesday at Mesa Community College.
The Aztecs earned their sixth straight win and third straight shutout after beating the Thunderbirds 3-0. It was Pima’s eighth shutout victory of the season and the second time they blanked Mesa (8-10-1). The Aztecs won 2-0 last month at Kino North Stadium.
Sophomore Alexis Hernandez (Ironwood Ridge HS) put the Aztecs on the board with her goal in the 17th minute with an assist from freshman Kylee Martin (Sahuaro HS). The Aztecs took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Freshman Annalisa Verdugo (Pueblo HS) gave the Aztecs some breathing room with her goal in the 72nd minute with an assist from sophomore Taylor Inocencio (St. Augustine Catholic HS). Sophomore Emily Gallagher (Sahuaro HS) helped seal it with her goal in the 78th minute.
The Aztecs outshot the Thunderbirds 10-2 for the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Tara Kase (Buena HS) had two saves.
The Aztecs close out the regular season on Thursday at Arizona Western College in Yuma. The game begins at4:30 p.m. Pima looks to avenge their 3-1 loss from last month at Kino North Stadium.
