Aztecs football can’t protect fourth quarter lead in loss at Eastern Arizona College

  

 

Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College football team (2-4, 0-3 in WSFL) played a tight game on Saturday at Eastern Arizona College but couldn’t put them away.

The Aztecs gave up 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to fall to the Gila Monsters 21-16.

The Aztecs took a 16-7 lead with 7:30 left in the game but the Gila Monsters responded on their next possession with an 89-yard touchdown reception with 6:27 left.

The Aztecs gained a couple of first downs and got to the Eastern Arizona 21-yardline. Oswalt kicked a 38-yard field goal but it was short and recovered in the endzone. From there, it was returned 100 yards for the touchdown with 1:17 left.

The Aztecs were forced to turn it over on downs on their final possession.

Down 7-6 to begin the fourth quarter, the Aztecs took the lead when sophomore Coby Oswalt hit a 21-yard field goal to put Pima up 9-7. On Eastern Arizona’s next possession, they fumbled the pitch and freshman Sam Moala recovered and returned it 5-yards for the score to make it 16-7.

Oswalt hit a couple of field goals to put the Aztecs ahead 6-0 but the Gila Monsters took a 7-6 advantage into halftime.

The Aztecs will return to Kino North Stadium on Saturday when they host Snow College at 1:00 p.m.
