Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (7-1-1) won its fifth straight game on Tuesday at Kino North Stadium but it didn’t come without a little drama at the end.
The No. 10 ranked Aztecs defeated Mesa Community College 1-0.
Freshman goalkeeper David Silva made the save of the game after he blocked an open shot that bounced off the cross bar and was cleared with two minutes left. As time ticked away the Thunderbirds had a free kick and freshman Ricky Flores (Desert View HS) blocked it as time expired.
The Aztecs had plenty of opportunities at the Mesa goal but managed one goal when sophomore Chris Cooper (University HS) scored on a penalty kick in the 55th minute.
The Aztecs outshot the Thunderbirds 6-3 for the game. Silva finished with three saves.
The Aztecs will return to Kino North Stadium on Thursday when they host Arizona Western College at 7:00 p.m.
Pima goals: Cooper (penalty kick) 55th minute.
