Former Cienega Bobcat Edgar Poe signs with Sugar Skulks, Defensive Back added to Roster

(Tucson, AZ)  The Tucson Sugar Skulls have added a local player to the 2020 roster signing Edgar Poe, a football and track star from Cienega High School in Vail.

Poe, 6-foot-5, 208 pounds, appeared in 37 games in a four-year career at the U.S. Military Academy West Point. He caught 43 passes for 982 yards and 11 touchdowns.

He earned three letters in football and four in track at Cienega High School and was voted to the All-Region football team during his senior year. He graduated in 2013.

Poe has two years of professional indoor football experience in the National Arena League where he played for the Maine Mammoths and the New York Streets.

Also joining the Sugar Skulls is Marvin Hart Jr., a 5’11, 182-pound defensive back from Stony Brook University in New York. Hart played in 25 games over three seasons at Stony Brook and recorded 43 tackles and four interceptions. He also returned kicks for the Seawolves.

Hart played his high school football at Lake Minneola High School in Minneola, Florida.

The Sugar Skulls now have 34 players signed for training camp. Players report to camp on March 3 and begin practice March 5 in preparation for the season opener on March 19 at the Cedar Rapids River Kings.

An open tryout for additional roster spots is set for Saturday, February 29, at Salpointe Catholic High School, 1545 E. Copper St. Registration is at 8 a.m. and the tryout will begin promptly at 9 a.m. The cost is $80 per player. Cash and money orders are the only acceptable forms of payment. All players intending to try out must register and sign a waiver to participate. The general public is invited to attend.

The Sugar Skulls will play seven regular-season home games at the Tucson Arena with the home opener on March 29 against the Duke City Gladiators. The regular season will go through June 27. The IFL playoffs will begin in early July.

Season tickets for the 2020 season are currently on sale to the general public with reduced prices from the 2019 season in several sections of the arena.
