Aztecs baseball opens season with 27-run barrage in sweep against Colorado Northwestern CC

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College baseball team (2-0) opened the 2019 season on Saturday against Colorado Northwestern Community College at the West Campus Aztec Baseball Field.
The Aztecs scored 27 runs (15 runs in the 1st innings alone) on the day and the pitching staff gave up a combined five hits with 19 strikeouts in 13 innings.

Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 11, Colorado Northwestern CC Spartans 1 (6 innings): The Aztecs scored seven runs in the 1st inning and earned the run-rule victory with four runs in the 6th inning.
Freshman Cole Cummings capped off the first inning with a two-run RBI single. He also had a ground-out RBI in the 6th as he finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Sophomore Javier Nava hit RBI singles in both innings and went 3 for 4 with two RBIs.
Sophomore pitcher Conner Nantkes (1-0) earned the win after pitching four and two-third innings giving up one run (one earned) on three hits with nine strikeouts and five walks. Freshman Emilio Lovato threw the final one and one-third innings with two strikeouts.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 16, Colorado Northwestern CC Spartans 0 (7 innings): The Aztecs offense came alive again in the 1stinning as they scored eight runs. They tacked on five runs in the 2nd inning and earned their second run-rule victory.
Freshman Alex Kelch (Tucson HS) had three RBIs in the 1st inning as he hit an RBI double and capped off the inning with a two-run RBI single. Her finished the game 4 for 5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Sophomore Jacob Jacome drew a bases loaded walk in the 1stand hit a two-run RBI single in the 2nd inning as he finished 1 for 2 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Sophomore Enrique Porchas (Kofa HS) went 3 for 4 with an RBI and three runs scored while fellow sophomore Fabian Ferreira (Tucson HS) was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
Sophomore Hayden Udall (Campo Verde HS) was on his game as he threw a seven-inning shutout (1-0) giving up two hits with eight strikeouts and no walks.

The Aztecs are back at it on Sunday when they host two more games against Colorado Northwestern Community College. First pitch is at 11:00 a.m.
